Greatest Performance from Fläkt Woods in South Korea
When the LG Group, one of the world's largest electronic conglomerates, needed to refurbish the ventilation system at its landmark headquarters building in Seoul, South Korea, they turned to Fläkt Woods to provide the high performance air handling units needed on this the most challenging of contracts.
Constructed from 1983 to 1987, the 144 metres tall LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, an Island in HAN river, Seoul, are used for the head offices of the LG Electronics Group and its subsidiary companies. They consist of 2 tower buildings which face each other (East Tower and West Tower) and a common basement. Because of the restrictive size of the plant rooms, finding a modern, compact ventilation replacement, which supported all of the buildings 34 storeys, was an exacting science.
After discussions with LG, Fläkt Woods faced one of its biggest tests; to supply new units that must have a substantially reduced footprint, in terms of width, height and length, while providing considerably higher performance.
Fläkt Woods won the order to supply 156 Air Handling Units and 64 fans because of their ability to provide the exact solution from their unrivalled product line-up, and their outstanding engineering know-how. The unique configuration of tailored EU Air Handling Units with specialist Axico fans, featuring obliquely installed coils, were precisely what the Twin Towers building required.
Air handling units with the Axico anti-stall CD range of fans are designed to achieve maximum compactness of conventional modular air handling units, in order to minimize building costs and space requirements. CD stands for compact design. To make the fan as compact as possible, the guide vane section is integrated with a diffuser. The CD converts dynamic pressure into static without adding the length of a separate diffuser. Its short overall length makes the fan eminently suitable for all air handling units.
Refurbishment of the skyscrapers, originally designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, is scheduled to run from end of October 2010 until June 2011.
